PROMOTION OF GREEN PROFESSIONS
The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) defines “green professions” as employments in agriculture, manufacturing industry, research and development, administration and services that significantly contribute to preserve or restore environmental quality.
Nowadays, there is a multitude of professionals, coming from widely various sectors, who seek to minimize the impact of their activities on the environment. This new environmental and sustainable development awareness brings about new competences and makes certain professions go green in order to meet the new challenges of green growth.
Numerous initiatives supported by international cooperation (EU, UNDP, GIZ, UNIDO, UNOPS, …) have been started since 2009 in order to promote training on green professions and enhance the enterprises’ environmental management competences.
The “Green Jobs Platform” is one of the initiatives allowing to offer young, job-seeking graduates in the Bizerte area a preparation, orientation, monitoring and support program as well as the acquisition of competences in promising professions in green economy. Within this framework, CITET’s services were called for and contracted by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) for the organization and implementation of a training program comprising 41 training sessions in the environmental sector. This program extends over a period of 4 months going from September to the end of December, on behalf of about 750 participants (beneficiary members of the GJP project, UNOPS referent councilors, and public, private, and civil society partners).
In this respect, within the framework of its green economy promotion strategy, the Tunis International Center for Environmental Technologies (CITET) developed a support program to the creation of green job opportunities in order to enhance the professional integration of young graduates.
This program aims to create green job-oriented courses, extend the participants’ range of expertise in the environmental field, and create new green job opportunities in order to make their professional integration easier. The suggested training covers the following themes:
• Training environmental managers/internal auditor of the Environmental Management System according to the 2015 version of the ISO 14001 standard;
• Training supporting experts for the implementation of the Environmental Management System according to the 2015 version of the ISO 14001 standard;
• Training energy managers of the Environmental Management System according to the ISO 50001 standard;
• Training experts on energy efficiency and renewable energies;
• Training executives on managing and exploiting industrial wastewater treatment plants;
• Training eco-advisors;
• Training eco-label managers;
• Training experts in quality, health, safety, and environment.
