INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
Developing strategic partnerships with similar centers through the preparation of framework conventions :
CITET, by working with international strategic partners, has strengthened its position with several countries of the southern shores and those of the north, by developing relations of friendship and cooperation with their institutions, and by broadening its network of international organizations to exchange experiences in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development and to transfer environmentally friendly technologies.
The Regional Activity Center for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP/RAC):
CITET is the National Focal Point of the SCP/RAC. It has actively taken part in the conception and implementation of the Regional Sustainable Consumption and Production Action Plan (SCP-AP) in the Mediterranean, which represents a unique regional political framework for SCP in the Mediterranean. The regional SCP-Action Plan had set objectives and measures for four priority sectors in order to prompt the contracting parties to the Barcelona Convention to better integrate SCP patterns in their national strategic frameworks. The priority consumption and production fields are:
- food, fishing, and agriculture;
- Consumer goods manufacturing;
- Tourism;
as well as
- Housing and construction.
Furthermore, in order to assure a regular evaluation of the Regional SCP Action Plan, a list of monitoring indicators has been prepared.
At the national level, the Tunisian government, through the Ministry in charge of the Environment, has been engaged to promote SCP patterns by adopting an SCP National Action Plan for the Tourism and Agri-food sectors.
It should also be noted that the SCP concept is tightly aligned with the center’s missions and projects, aiming to meet the challenges of environment protection and sustainable development, especially in the fields of eco-innovation promotion to support enterprises and organizations in their environmental transition.
The University of Rostock:
The Department of waste Management and Material Flow of the UNIVERSITY OF ROSTOCK –GERMANY is a strategic partner of CITET. In the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding established between the two institutions they developed several Research projects.
The objective of this Memorandum of Understanding is the exchange of information, technology and experiences in the field of Sustainable waste management and carry out cooperative activities in areas of mutual interest.
The priority research fields are:
1- Sustainable solid waste management concepts and strategies, waste prevention, source separation at source, waste logistics, recycling, waste recovery and waste disposal;
2- Waste treatment (including Production of Reuse Drived Fuel for the cement industry and power station);
3- Recycling of used tires, composting of organic waste, recycling of electronic waste, treatment and utilization of hazardous waste;
4- Waste to energy and bioenergy.
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO):
Within the framework of the UNIDO-UNEP network, CITET, as the National Center for Cleaner Production (CNPP) is member of Global Network for Resource Efficient and Cleaner ProductionRECP-net.
The primary objective of RECPnet is to contribute to the effective and efficient development, application, adaptation, scaling up and mainstreaming of RECP concepts, methods, policies, practices and technologies in developing and transition economies. Additionally, RECPnet aims to facilitate North-South, South-South and South-North-South collaboration, including the transfer of RECP-relevant knowledge, experiences and technologies. - Among the main adopted financing mechanisms:
• The H2020 program, which is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020)
• The Cross-Border Cooperation Program “Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme”: ENI-CBC MED 2014-202, is the largest Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) initiative implemented by the EU under the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI), to finance cooperation projects for a more competitive, innovative, inclusive and sustainable Mediterranean area.
Organization and participation in regional and international events:
Aware of the importance of its role as an interface for exchanging knowledge and know-how between the world of research and the socioeconomic environment, CITET is closely following the technological issues and innovations in the environmental field, by organizing and participating in regional and international events.
Organization of visits and missions to CITET and abroad:
As part of its openness to sisterly and friendly countries, and to share its experience and learn about the success stories of other countries, CITET periodically organizes missions abroad and receives visits from official delegations.
Participation in international and regional networks:
In order to expand its current network of partners and strengthen its position at the regionally and internationally, CITET has integrated several networks including;
RECPnet, whose main purpose would be to contribute to the efficient and effective development, the application, the adaptation, the extension and integration of concepts, methods, policies, practices and technologies of Clean Production and Energy Efficiency (RECP) in developing and transition economies. RECPnet also intends to facilitate North-South, South-South and South-North-South collaboration, including the transfer of relevant knowledge, experiences and technologies for RECP.
The Climate Technology Center and Network, the operational responsibility of the technology mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. (UNFCCC), encourages the deployment and transfer of climate technologies at the request of developing countries in order to achieve high development energy efficient, low -carbon and resilient to climate change.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) network, as a training and capacity building center for the environment and climate change in the Arab region, with an objective to bring its know-how in this area to the members of the network, towards a better integration of the environmental component in the ICT sector.
Promotion of SOUTH/SOUTH Cooperation:
CITET is actively working to develop South-South cooperation by promoting its know-how and skills to African countries, with the support of active strategic partners in this area, such as the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT), the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). etc..
